Stand up tanning beds is perhaps not the most appropriate of names to describe what it actually is. It is a booth and if you are familiar with tanning salons then you probably know that more and more “tanning beds” are becoming vertical rather than horizontally positioned. The reflects the evolution and technology of artificial tanning methods. The idea of a stand up tanning bed actually originated from the invention of spray tan booth. It functions in a similar way but instead of being sprayed you are tanned by UV light. The practicality of such a device and position in which clients must stand is without question.

Those of you who prefer to lay down in relaxed way will find that standing up can be a little perplexing. This is definitely a drawback especially for tanners who look forward to laying down in comfort. Stand up tanning beds are all about efficiency and of course a better. You will sacrifice the comfort of laying down and letting the UV bulbs do there but you’ll come out the tanning bed quicker and with a much more evened tan. Put it this way you won’t complain after your session. Horizontal beds require that you turn around after a certain time to tan either your frontal area or you back. This isn’t an issue with stand up beds because the UV lights will literally surround your entire body. As far as mobility you will also be able to move a bit unlike the restrictions you’ll have with traditional tanning beds. Ultimately it takes a good getting used to from client point of view. Salon owners are thrilled for a number of reasons, and maintenance tops the list. Less cleaning and disinfecting is required with commercial stand up tanning beds as opposed to horizontal beds that must be cleaned and sanitized after every use.
We can debate which type of tanning bed is better ad nauseum, but the facts are undeniable. Stand up tanning beds provide a better bed but are less comfortable than traditional beds. That is the bottom line, as far as safety issues go, well nothing involving sunless tans is absolutely safe. Risks are always a factor irregardless of which method you choose. It is true that the light bulb intensity is greater for standup tanning bed but considering other factors such as over all time of a tan, this is actually negligible. The option of choosing one over the other might not even be applicable in the future because the new trend is stand up tanning beds and it is inevitable that traditional tanning beds will eventually be phased out.
