Spray Tans by Hand or by Booth

Entering a tanning salon you are approached by an assistant that asks ‘how may I help’, implying what kind of tan would you like. Many times people will answer ‘I don’t know’ and then the salon employee will offer their recommendation. It doesn’t have to be this way. You can go to a tanning salon and know beforehand exactly the type of spray tans that are offered and exactly which one you want. There are only two kinds of spray tan methods, there’s one where you get your tan in a booth and the other one which is done by hand.

Which kind is right for you, the frank answer will almost always be the one that is performed by an actual human being. That is unless they are awful at their job and in such a case a booth would be better. The dilemma with this choosing a between spray tans comes down to how much it will cost. Well there are other factors such as if you actually want someone to spray and to see you completely bare if you like to tan the bikini lines as well. Spray tans are also not just about whether it’s done by an airbrush or automated in a booth, it is also about selection. The selection of the type of tanning solution you want. There is difference between different kinds and some will give a different kind of bronze shade. You will have to ask the tanning salon what they have in stock.

Some salons have a contract with a specific brand such as Artesian blend spray tanning solution which is a good brand. There are some brands that are organic and safer and some will give your skin a darker tint. A tanning salon that advertises professional spray tans should offer the clients the type of tanning solution they want. This is the type of establishment that tanners usually frequent more often and eventually become regulars in.

I just had my very first spray tan ever! It was awesome! After reading several blogs and experiences of others I knew I wanted to go to a technician and not a booth. I look 10lbs lighter! I asked the assistant what she was spraying me with and she said Greedy 10% from EnvyTan. It looks so natural! I do have a question though….what did she mean by 10%? I was too busy looking at the new me in the mirror to ask!

Brandi,

She meant 10% DHA, that is the main ingredient in the spray tan solution that darkens your skin. I’m happy for you that you had an amazing tan. :-)
