Spray tanning is one of several alternatives to sunbathing. Just like other sunless tans, spray tanning is artificial but methods such as tanning beds, spray tanning uses chemicals to darken the skin. There are several ways one can get a spay on tan. You can opt for a spray tanning booth or you can have the tanning solution sprayed directly on your body by a tanning specialist. Spray tanning salons are becoming more common and chances are you gave one in your neighborhood. They however differ greatly because this form of sunless tanning is effective based on the type of equipment used. Some spray tanning systems are technically advanced and offer’s the client a superior and even tan. Some spray tanning machines are not as accurate and also not as safe. A person who is new to all of this won’t be able to tell a difference by looking at the equipment but the end result is what matters. If your tan comes out nice and even then the salon has modern and hi-tech equipment.

If however you tan did not come out as even then they probably have equipment and systems at are better suited for home use. Also an advanced spray tanning system would offer you to decide how dark or bronze you want your skin to be. They also have proper drainage and proper ventilation. This is necessary because the spray itself is not safe to breathe and can also be irritating to the eyes. This is the case for automated systems but if you tan is done by hand then what really matters is the experience and skills of the person who is spraying your body. Some spray tanners are exceptionally good and others are inexperienced. It will be obvious to you if you have experienced more than one tan from different salons. The professionals are actually trained and undergo spray tanning courses are tanning salons. You won’t know until after your tan and if you feel unsatisfied there is nothing you can really do about. The tanner might however try to spray you in places that he or she has missed.

The main active ingredient in any spray tanning solution is dihydroxyacetone and this is what is considered safe, unfortunately it is not the only chemical used. Actually ever spray tanning solution differs so a list of chemicals used in one brand might differ greatly from the next. You should try to learn as much as you can about the brand that will be used on you. There are ways to go about this and the best way is to do a search online and then to search each and every ingredient used in the solution. It might take some time but at least you’ll be assured of what goes on your skin. Chances are you won’t even get a tan when you mind out the chemicals that are being used in these products. Sure there is claim that spray tanning is safe but criticism is making headlines every now and then. The most troubling is that some doctors and organizations have went on record stating that some spray tanning methods pose a great risk to humans. And I don’t mean minor risks but rather risks that include cancer.

Similarly to tanning beds, spray tanning booths may also cause some people to develop melanoma or skin cancer. This kinds of risks should alarm every one who uses spray tanning to brown their skin. Such risks increase with overuse and if we think about it does a person goes to only one spray tanning session. It seems for many people it becomes part of their lives and character. They enjoy walking around with a darker skin color that spray tanning becomes a routine. These people may be at greater risk but there is no denying that even one single session in a booth could also pose a great risk to your health. What’s even more alarming is that spray tanning equipment is even sold for home use. This means that people who buy this mobile spray tanning equipment are more likely to use it more often. Equipment for the home is often not as safe as high end machines because they provide no kind of ventilation. This does not concern manufacturers.

You will see advertisements that entice people into buy these machines. The ads will say something like look sexy, look dark with our spray tanning machine. You won’t however read a caution label that will state that you can seriously harm your health by using such machines that omit a mist that darkens the skin. The notion that spray tanning is safer than natural sunlight is so implanted in peoples’ minds that they don’t even think twice to question the risks that are associated with sunless tanning. If you do spray tanning the consider finding out more information on every aspect of spray tanning. If you haven’t started with sunless tanning then ask yourself is it really worth the risk. Is the color of your skin so important that you are willing to risk your health just to look a certain shade of brown or bronze. Spray tanning just like tanning beds do in fact darken the skin but there are risks and you should know about these risks before compromising your health.
